YJ RuiLong Pyraminx
YJ RuiLong Pyraminx belongs to the budget RuiLong series from
YJ (YongJun). It's an affordable speed pyraminx that works well as your first pyraminx for learning. It's also a cheap way to find out whether the pyraminx event is for you. The model was released in 2018 and is available only in the stickerless bright version, which means coloured plastic with no stickers. There's nothing to peel off or wear away.
Mechanism and stability
The RuiLong has a ball bearing stabilization system (ball bearing design). It helps the pieces "snap" into place, and the puzzle feels stable and predictable. This matters with cheaper pyraminxes, because less precise turns during your first attempts don't immediately end in a lockup. This pyraminx isn't very fast. It suits people who prefer calmer, controlled turning over the highest possible TPS.
Setup before your first solve
Tension is adjusted with adjustment screws. In our experience, the RuiLong works best on one of the lower settings, so it's worth spending a moment on setup after you take it out of the box. User reviews say the same: once it's set up well, the puzzle performs noticeably better than straight out of the box. If you like, you can also add a little lube, although it isn't necessary for learning.
Who is it for?
For beginners, kids who are just starting out with puzzles, and 3x3 cubers who want to try a new event without spending a lot. The RuiLong is legal for official competitions, so it's also suitable for your first competitions. A more advanced pyraminx solver fighting for every tenth of a second will probably reach for a higher-end model with magnets and more adjustment options sooner or later. For mastering a method and regular practice, the RuiLong is all you need.
