YJ YuSu 4x4 II Magnetic (YuSu V2 M) is the magnetic version of YJ's budget 4x4 cube. The manufacturer describes it as the first version with magnets in the YuSu series. This cube does not compete with flagship 4x4s. It is a simple, affordable model for someone who already solves the 3x3 and wants to start 4x4 on a magnetic cube rather than a non-magnetic one. In our shop it is available in the stickerless bright colour scheme, so there are no stickers. The colours are in the plastic itself, so nothing peels off or wears away.

How it turns

The outer layers turn very smoothly. The magnets are medium to weak, so the cube doesn't offer much resistance and doesn't have the strong "click" of models with powerful magnets. They do help the layers settle into place, which on a 4x4 makes it easier to line up slice moves and reduces minor lockups. Users praise its corner cutting and note that a few drops of lube noticeably help the cube break in.

The reviews also include some criticism. Some people report catching on inner-layer moves (e.g. Uw), and some report popping during more aggressive turning. These are typical compromises in this price range. It's worth knowing about them before the YuSu ends up in the hands of a very fast solver.

YuSu II or the newer generation?

YJ later released the YuSu V3 M, including a version with a more pronounced, clicky feel. The second generation has a smoother, softer character. If you already have a YuSu II and are happy with it, you probably don't need to replace it. If you're buying your first 4x4, the YuSu II is a safe choice if you want smooth turning with light magnets.

Who is it for?

For beginners and casual solvers who want to move from 3x3 to 4x4 without spending a lot of money. It's also a sensible gift for a child who has already mastered the 3x3. A speedcuber who trains 4x4 regularly and needs stability at high TPS will be happier with a more expensive model with stronger magnets and more extensive tension adjustment.
