YJ Zhilong M Mini 4x4 UV

YJ Zhilong M Mini 4x4 UV is a magnetic 4x4 cube in a mini size. It measures 56 mm, roughly the same as a typical 3x3 cube. Classic 4x4 cubes are noticeably bigger, so this model is easier to hold in your hand and lets you regrip faster. This version has a glossy UV coating and comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme. The model was previously sold as the YJ ZhiSu M 4x4. The manufacturer has renamed it Zhilong Mini 4x4 M.

How it turns

The Zhilong M Mini is fairly fast, and its feel is more crunchy than smooth. You can clearly feel every turn under your fingers. In the Zhilong M series, the inner layers have stronger magnets than the outer ones. When you turn the inner layers (slices), the cube holds its position more firmly, while the outer faces turn more lightly. Users point out the noticeable "snap" of the magnets at the end of each move. It helps the layers line up when you turn faster.

The small size is not for everyone. At 56 mm, your fingers have less room, and some people with large hands prefer a standard 4x4 of around 60 mm. It is worth considering before you buy, especially if the 4x4 is going to be your main practice cube.

UV coating and other versions

The UV coating gives a glossy surface that offers better grip than regular plastic. The Zhilong Mini 4x4 M comes in several versions:

• standard M: magnets in the pieces, no UV coating,
• M UV (this product): the same magnetic mechanism with a UV coating,
• M Ball-Core UV: additionally has magnets in the core for more stability. This version is slightly heavier.

The UV version without Ball-Core is a good choice if you want more grip and don't need the extra stability from the core.

Who is it for?

This cube is a good fit for people with smaller hands, including children. It will also suit cubers who simply like smaller puzzles. As an affordable magnetic 4x4, it works well as a first cube of this type when moving from 3x3 to bigger cubes. Experienced speedcubers can use it as a backup cube or for solving on the go.
