The most important change in the second generation of the HuangLong is its size. The first YuXin HuangLong 11x11 measured approx. 109 mm and weighed over 800 g, so longer solves quickly tired your hands. The YuXin HuangLong 11x11 V2 measures approx. 86 mm and weighs roughly half as much. This means you can comfortably hold it in your hands and turn it like a regular cube, without resting it on a table. This version comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme, i.e. coloured plastic with no stickers.

How it turns

In the V2, YuXin redesigned the centers. The manufacturer calls this an integrated center piece design and states that the new construction improves stability. With 11 layers, this matters, because big cubes are prone to layers drifting out of place and misalignments. Users describe the turning as smooth and surprisingly light for an 11x11 cube. They also praise the slightly rounded edges.

There are also a few things worth knowing before you buy. Some users report that certain inner layers feel noticeably tighter than the outer ones straight out of the box. Overly aggressive turning can also cause popping. This is common with big cubes: the cube needs some time to break in, and lubing it along with calmer, more precise turning usually evens out its performance.

Who is an 11x11 cube for?

The HuangLong V2 is a good next step for anyone who already solves the 6x6 and 7x7 and wants to try a bigger big cube. The method is the same as for smaller NxN cubes: centers first, then pairing up the edges, and finally the 3x3 stage. On an 11x11, each of these stages simply takes much longer. The model also works well as a collection piece, as its small size makes it easy to keep on a shelf and take with you. For a first cube, including for a child, a 3x3 is a better choice. Solving an 11x11 takes a lot of time and requires knowing the methods for solving bigger cubes.
