YuXin Huanglong Master Kilominx is a dodecahedron from the Huanglong series and the bigger version of the regular Kilominx. Each face has four layers across, so it is the minx equivalent of a 4x4 cube rather than a 2x2. This is the non-magnetic version in stickerless bright colors. The faces have a sculpted surface that improves grip.

How it differs from a regular Kilominx

A regular Kilominx is made up of corners only, just like a 2x2. The Master Kilominx adds edges and center pieces, but as on a 4x4, there are no fixed centers. You solve the centers and pair the edges first, and only then the rest of the puzzle. Experience with the 4x4 and the Megaminx helps a lot. Without it, it is better to start with a regular Kilominx or a Megaminx.

How it turns

Buyers praise the smooth turning straight out of the box and the low weight. The puzzle is compact, so it sits comfortably in your hands. The lack of magnets comes at a price, though. The layers do not snap into place on their own, so you need to align them carefully before the next move. With imprecise turning, the neighboring layer can also turn along with the one you are moving. According to user reviews, it turns noticeably better after a break-in period.

It is more of a puzzle to solve for fun than a speedsolving tool. For a child's first minx, a regular Megaminx is the better choice.
