YuXin Huanglong Master Kilominx M is a 4x4-style dodecahedron: each face has four layers, just like a 4x4 cube, while the whole puzzle has the shape of a megaminx. The letter M in the name stands for the magnetic version. The edge and corner pieces come with factory-installed magnets. The puzzle is available in stickerless bright, and its faces are slightly sculpted.

How to solve it

If you can solve a 4x4 cube and a megaminx, you already know most of the techniques you need. First you build the centers and pair the edges, then you solve the puzzle much like a megaminx. However, the parity algorithms from the 4x4 don't carry over directly. A solve takes noticeably longer than on a regular megaminx, so the Master Kilominx is more of a puzzle for calm, longer sessions than a cube for setting times. The Master Kilominx is not a WCA event.

According to user reviews, the magnets are rather weak to medium. They help align the layers, but they don't give the strong "click" you get in flagship 3x3 cubes. The puzzle is stable and doesn't tend to pop. Straight out of the box, the outer layers may turn more stiffly. Taking the puzzle apart and lubing it usually improves the turning.

M version or non-magnetic?

The Huanglong Master Kilominx is also available in a non-magnetic version. That version is lighter, but it requires precise layer alignment. If the layers aren't lined up properly, lockups happen easily. Users of the non-magnetic version also report these alignment issues. The M version is more forgiving and works better for faster solving.

For someone who has already mastered the megaminx and 4x4 or 5x5 cubes and is looking for the next challenge among minx puzzles. It's also a great pick for collectors completing the Huanglong series.
