Z-Cube paper cards with algorithms for the CFOP method, covering the F2L, OLL and PLL steps on the 3x3 cube. Useful when moving from the beginner's method to CFOP and when learning more last-layer cases.
This is a paper cheat sheet from Z-Cube with algorithms for the CFOP method. Z-Cube CFOP Card Paper collects the algorithms for the F2L, OLL and PLL steps, the part of solving the 3x3 cube where you have to memorize the most. The cards come in handy when you move from the beginner's method to full CFOP and don't want to look up an algorithm on your phone or on printouts for every case.
CFOP (Cross, F2L, OLL, PLL), also called the Fridrich method, is the most popular speedcubing method for the 3x3 cube. First you solve the cross. Then you insert corner-edge pairs (F2L), orient the last layer (OLL) and finally move its pieces to their correct positions (PLL). Full OLL has 57 cases and PLL has 21. For F2L, people usually learn the 41 basic cases. You can't memorize all that in a week, so having the algorithm cards at hand is convenient.
The cards work best for learning new algorithms and reviewing them. When you come across a case you don't know yet while solving, just look it up and practise it right away. Many people start with PLL because it has the fewest cases and you see results quickly. Then comes OLL and polishing your F2L.
The algorithms on the cards are a good starting point, but not every version will suit your fingertricks best. More advanced cubers often replace some of them over time with alternatives that feel better in their hands.
Z-Cube also makes plastic CFOP cards. This version is made of paper, so it bends and gets wet more easily. It's best to keep it in a box or bag together with your cube.
For those who can already solve the cube with the layer-by-layer method and are starting to learn CFOP. They will also be useful if you know some of the algorithms and want to fill in the gaps. If you're just starting out and can't solve the cube on your own yet, CFOP cards are too much for now. It's better to begin with a simple beginner's guide. For a child who can already solve the cube alone and wants to get faster, they can be a useful add-on to a cube.
