Z-Cube Face 1x2x2 is a flat puzzle from Z-Cube. It has only two layers and four pieces, and instead of solid colors on the sides it features little faces. It's one of the simplest twisty puzzles out there. As a first cube, it works better than a classic 3x3, which can easily leave beginners discouraged.

How to solve the 1x2x2

The 1x2x2 cube (also called 2x2x1) is basically a single layer of a 2x2 cube. Every move is a 180-degree turn, so two pieces swap places and flip upside down. The number of possible positions is small. Most people solve it after a few minutes of play, without any algorithms. An experienced cuber can do it in just a few moves.

The Face version needs a bit more attention than the version with colored stickers. You have to put the faces together so that the picture is oriented correctly, not just match the colors.

Who is it for?

Mainly for young children and anyone who has never solved a cube before. It makes it easy to move on to the 2x2, because it shows very clearly how pieces change places when you turn a layer. Thanks to its light weight and small size, it also works well as a fidget toy or a small gift. Collectors will find it a good match for other Z-Cube puzzles. We also offer the larger Z-Cube 2x2x2 Face Cube with the same face design. It's a noticeably harder puzzle.

This is not a speedcubing cube, and there is no official WCA event for it. If you're looking for a fast cube for practice, choose a magnetic 2x2 or 3x3.
