A Z-cube 3x3 cube with tic-tac-toe patterns printed on a white body. The mechanism is the same as in a classic 3x3, but you recognize the pieces by their symbols, not by colors, and to fully solve it you also need to orient the centers correctly. An interesting change for anyone who can already solve a regular cube.
Z-cube Tic-TAC-Toe Cube is a 3x3 cube with the mechanism of a classic puzzle cube but with different graphics. Instead of solid colors, the faces carry tic-tac-toe patterns made of X and O symbols. The design is printed directly on the plastic, so there are no stickers that could peel off. The body is white. This is a novelty cube: for anyone who can already solve a regular 3x3 and wants to solve it in a different way, or as a gift for someone who enjoys brain teasers.
The moves and algorithms are the same as on a standard 3x3, so knowing the layer-by-layer method or CFOP is enough. The challenge lies elsewhere. Instead of six colors, you have to recognize pieces by their pattern, and many of them look alike. On top of that, there is center orientation. On a regular cube, turning a center changes nothing, but here a wrongly rotated center spoils the picture on the face. Fully solving this cube therefore requires a few extra algorithms for rotating centers.
This is not speedcubing hardware. According to distributors, the cube has no magnets, and it also lacks the systems known from flagship models, such as MagLev or Ball-Core. Turning is smooth and perfectly adequate for relaxed solving, but don't expect the stability or corner cutting of a magnetic training cube. What matters here is the look and the pattern-recognition challenge, not the time.
For people who can already solve a 3x3 and are looking for a change from regular practice, as well as for collectors of unusual cubes. It also makes a good gift for a child who knows the basics of solving. For a first cube to learn on, however, it's better to choose a classic model with colored faces, as the patterns and center orientation make getting started harder.
