ZePuzzle 9CM SQ1 Cube

ZePuzzle 9CM SQ1 Cube is an enlarged version of the classic Square-1 from ZePuzzles. It measures 90 mm, so it is noticeably bigger than typical speedcubing SQ-1s, which are about the size of a regular 3x3 cube. Its pieces are 3D printed, and our shop offers it in the Black version.

A big Square-1

The mechanism works just like a regular SQ-1. The top and bottom layers turn independently, and the middle slice cuts the puzzle in half. This lets pieces move between layers and makes the puzzle change shape. Solving usually starts with restoring the cube shape (cubeshape), and only then do you sort out the colors. At 9 cm, all pieces are large and easy to tell apart. This comes in handy when you are learning cubeshape or showing someone algorithms step by step.

Weight and turning

The cube weighs about 350 g, which is several times more than a standard SQ-1. One customer writes that it turns well, but during longer sessions the weight starts to get in the way. This is not a cube for timed practice or for breaking records. 3D printed pieces feel different from injection-molded speedcubes. The manufacturer gives no information about magnets or tension adjustment, so don't expect the same feel as flagship magnetic SQ-1s.

Who is it for?

It is a good choice for collectors of unusual variants of well-known puzzles and for anyone teaching Square-1 in classes or at a hobby club. It will also delight SQ-1 fans who want an XXL version for the shelf. For competitions and everyday practice, a standard-size Square-1 is a better choice, ideally a magnetic one. The big ZePuzzle can be a fun addition to it.
