ZePuzzles Crazy Fisher 2x3x3

ZePuzzles Crazy Fisher 2x3x3 is a shape-shifting puzzle built on the Crazy 2x3x3 mechanism. It looks like a cube, but the cuts are rotated 45 degrees relative to the body, which is how all Fisher-type designs work. After just a few moves, the puzzle loses its shape and looks completely different from its solved state. The shape adds an extra layer of difficulty: while solving, you have to keep track not only of the colors but also of how the whole shape is oriented.

How it differs from a regular 2x3x3

On a classic 2x3x3, the top and bottom 3x3 layers turn in 90-degree steps, while the side faces turn only 180 degrees. The same applies here, so if you know the 2x3x3, you'll immediately understand how to turn this one. There are two differences. The Fisher design makes pieces stick out in different directions once scrambled, so the puzzle changes its outline. The Crazy element adds circular cuts on the 3x3 faces, which make some pieces move differently than on a standard 2x3x3. As a result, familiar algorithms don't carry over directly, and recognizing pieces takes more attention than on a regular Fisher Cube.

Who is it for?

This puzzle is for people who can solve a 3x3 and want to try something different from yet another speedcube. It works well as the next step after a regular Fisher Cube or after a 2x3x3 without a shape modification. It also fits nicely into a shape mod collection: solved, it looks like an ordinary cube, but scrambled, it looks nothing like one. This isn't a puzzle for setting time records. What counts here is figuring things out, not TPS. For a child's first puzzle, a classic 3x3 cube is a better choice.
