ZePuzzles Domino Skewb is a shape mod puzzle from the Skewb family. Its mechanism combines features of a 2x2 cube and a Skewb, so it turns differently from both of them. It is a cube with sides of approx. 56 mm and weighs approx. 67 g. It has no magnets. Two plastic colors are available: Black and White.

How is it different from a regular Skewb?

A classic Skewb turns diagonally, around axes that pass through the corners. A 2x2 cube turns in layers parallel to its faces. The Domino Skewb combines both types of moves, so even if you know the Skewb or the 2x2 well, you will need some time to get used to the mechanism. It is not a WCA event puzzle. It is more of a collector's curiosity and a good workout for your spatial imagination than a piece of gear for setting timer records.

Difficulty

The puzzle is fairly intuitive. A few simple techniques and only a handful of algorithms are enough to solve it, so you can figure it out on your own without learning long sequences. It works well as your first puzzle beyond the standard NxN cubes.

No magnets

There are no magnets inside, so the layers do not snap into place by themselves the way they do on magnetic speed cubes. With a puzzle like this, that is not a big drawback, because what matters most here is the logic of the moves, not speed. However, if you are used to flagship M cubes, you will clearly notice that it behaves differently when turning.

Who is it for?

For cubers who can already solve a 3x3 or a Skewb and want to try something different. Also for collectors of unusual puzzles. Thanks to its simple solution, it also makes a good gift for a child who enjoys brain teasers. However, it is not a good choice if you are looking for a Skewb for timed practice. For that, a classic magnetic speed Skewb is a better fit.
