ZePuzzles LevinStone 2x2

ZePuzzles LevinStone 2x2 is a shape mod: a puzzle with the mechanism of a regular 2x2 cube hidden inside a completely different shape. It was designed by Xsquared and is produced by ZePuzzles. When solved, it resembles a truncated pyramid with diagonal cuts. It loses that shape after the first few moves, and when scrambled it looks like an irregular, cracked stone. The puzzle's Chinese name means roughly "cracked stone pillar", and the English name is simply its phonetic transcription.

How it solves

The moves work exactly as on a regular 2x2, so the methods you already know still apply. The challenge lies elsewhere. Because of the diagonal cuts, the puzzle passes through strange, angular states while you solve it, and it's easy to lose your bearings. You have to keep track of where each piece is and how it's oriented, rather than just looking at the colors. If you can solve a 2x2 without thinking, this is a great exercise in spatial orientation.

Build

• 3D printed in PETG. PETG is a durable material often used for puzzles printed in small batches.
• Tiled finish. Instead of stickers, the faces are covered with colored tiles.
• Two color variants: Black and White.

This is a collector's puzzle, not a speedcube. There's no point comparing a 3D print with magnetic 2x2 cubes in terms of TPS or smoothness. LevinStone is meant to challenge you and look interesting, not to break time records.

Who is it for?

For those who can already solve a regular 2x2 and want something that looks and behaves differently. Also for collectors of shape mods and 3D printed puzzles. LevinStone isn't a good choice as a first cube for a complete beginner. It's easier to start with a classic 2x2 and come back to this puzzle once the basics have become second nature.
