A fourteen-faced, 3D-printed face-turning puzzle designed by Jacob Keener. It has shallower cuts than the Dayan Gem III, so centers are visible on the square faces. It features tiles instead of stickers and a black body. A great pick if you already know Megaminx- or Gem-type puzzles, and for collectors.
A fourteen-faced face-turning puzzle from ZePuzzles, fully 3D printed. The Super Gem III Cube, also known as the Tetradecaminx, was designed by Jacob Keener. It was inspired by the Dayan Gem III and the Verypuzzle #86 C1O3 M5. We offer the version with a black body.
The key difference is the cut depth. The cuts on the Super Gem III are shallower than on the original Gem III, so centers are visible on the square faces. This changes both how the puzzle looks and how you solve it. Experience with the Gem III helps, but you can't carry the method over one-to-one, because the visible centers also need to be oriented.
According to available descriptions, the body is printed from PLA. Instead of regular stickers, the surface is covered with tiles that also cover the face centers, so the center caps cannot be removed. Users say it turns surprisingly well for a fully printed puzzle. Some even find it smoother than the Dayan Gem III, although not everyone prefers it. Still, this is not an injection-molded speedcube, so don't expect the same feel. Printed puzzles often need to be broken in and lubed first to turn smoothly.
PLA softens at high temperatures, so don't leave the puzzle in a hot car, on a sunny windowsill or near a radiator.
The Super Gem III is a good choice if you have already solved the Megaminx, puzzles from the Gem series or other face-turning puzzles and want something less typical. It will also appeal to collectors of unusual designs and 3D-printed puzzles. We don't recommend it as a first puzzle after the 3x3. Be prepared to work out the solving method largely on your own, using techniques known from other puzzles, such as commutators. If you're buying a gift for a child who is just starting out, a simpler puzzle from our range will be a better fit.
