Calvins Puzzle Corey 3x3x5 Fisher Cuboid V2

Corey 3x3x5 Fisher Cuboid V2 is a 3x3x5 cuboid with a Fisher-style cut, designed by Corey Fravel and manufactured by Calvins Puzzle. The V2 version is available as stickerless only. Its 3x3 faces are blue and green, which sets it apart from the other versions of this model.

What is a Fisher Cuboid 3x3x5?

A regular 3x3x5 is a 3x3 cube with extra layers on two opposite sides, giving it the shape of an elongated cuboid. In the Fisher version, the cutting planes are rotated by 45 degrees, just like in the classic Fisher Cube. As a result, the puzzle changes shape after only a few moves and becomes hard to recognize once scrambled. Solving it requires tracking the orientation of pieces that are no problem at all on a regular 3x3x5. This puzzle belongs to the shape-shifting category.

How it turns

This is a collector's puzzle, not a speedcubing cube. Based on descriptions of the first version of this model, the mechanism turns smoothly, but corner cutting is limited. You need to make precise turns, because an incompletely turned layer easily leads to lockups. That's perfectly fine for solving at a relaxed pace, but don't expect it to behave like a 3x3 speed cube.

V1, V2 or V3?

All three versions are the same design by Corey Fravel. They differ mainly in their color scheme:

• First version: available with stickers in several body colors and as stickerless.
• V2: stickerless only, with blue and green 3x3 faces.
• V3: stickerless only, with white and yellow 3x3 faces.

A different color layout changes which faces form the shorter ends of the puzzle. For a collector, it's a separate puzzle, even though the versions are mechanically very similar.

Who is it for?

For those who solve the 3x3 with ease, have already tackled regular cuboids and want a tougher challenge. Knowing cuboid parity, or being willing to learn it, will also come in handy. For your first non-standard puzzle, a regular 3x3x5 or a Fisher Cube is a better choice.
