Calvins Puzzle Corey 3x3x5 Fisher Cuboid V3

Corey 3x3x5 Fisher Cuboid V3 is a shape modification of the classic 3x3x5 cuboid. It was designed by Corey Fravel and is produced by Calvin's Puzzle. The V3 version has white and yellow 3x3 faces and comes only in stickerless plastic, so there are no stickers that could wear off or peel.

What is a 3x3x5 Fisher Cuboid?

Inside, it uses a 3x3x5 cuboid mechanism, but the cuts are rotated 45 degrees relative to the outer shape. The Fisher Cube, based on a 3x3, works the same way. Once scrambled, the puzzle loses its regular shape and starts to look like a collection of stepped pieces. That is why it belongs to the shape-shifting puzzle category. The colors help, but while solving you also have to keep an eye on the shape. As a result, it requires a different way of thinking than a regular cuboid.

V1, V2 and V3: what's the difference?

All three versions share the same design and differ only in their color scheme:

• Corey 3x3x5 Fisher Cuboid (V1): made in several body colors with stickers, as well as in a stickerless version.
• V2: blue and green on the 3x3 faces.
• V3: white and yellow on the 3x3 faces.

In V3, white and yellow also appear on the inner layers. Some say the puzzle would look cleaner without them. Others point out that they make it easier to tell similar pieces apart, which makes solving a little simpler.

How does it turn?

This is a collector's puzzle, not a speedcubing cube. Users describe the turning as somewhat "rickety", because the outer corners have a bit of play. This makes it louder and less smooth than modern 3x3 cubes. Even so, it turns well enough that you can solve it using fingertricks.

Who is it for?

For people who can comfortably solve a 3x3 and want to try something different. Knowing how to solve a regular 3x3x5 cuboid will help, because the Fisher adds shape-shifting on top of it. We don't recommend it as a child's first puzzle. However, it will fit nicely into a collection alongside other cuboids and shape mods.
