Lubicle Black is a core lube made by Cubicle Labs, the lab of TheCubicle store. It is thick, yet it still has low friction. The manufacturer designed it for spots where metal touches metal or plastic. In a cube, that means the screws, springs and the undersides of the centers. It is not a piece lube: it doesn't change the feel of the layers, it simply takes care of the mechanism inside the cube. The bottle holds 5 ml.

What is core lube for?

Lube in the core reduces friction between the spring, screw and center and protects these parts from wear. Many cubers lube the core right after buying a new cube, before they even start choosing piece lubes. Lubicle Black users most often say that it quiets spring noise and makes turning smoother. Some also notice that the cube slows down slightly after applying it. For some that's a downside, for others it's a way to get a bit more control.

How to use

• Apply a small drop to the head of each screw and to the underside of each center. The core doesn't need more than that.
• If the lube has been sitting unused for a long time, it may separate. In that case, mix it thoroughly before use.
• Lube your cube on a paper towel or another surface you can throw away afterwards.

Watch out for stains

Lubicle Black is dark in color and stains heavily. Be careful with clothes and light-colored surfaces. It is hard to wash off skin. The manufacturer recommends rubbing in silicone oil first and then washing your hands with soap and water.

Who is it for?

For anyone who takes their cube apart and wants to look after its insides. It comes in handy, for example, with loud or squeaky springs, with an older cube that has lost its smoothness, or as a starting point with a new cube. If you already have a core lube you trust, Lubicle Black isn't a must. Beginners who are just getting to know lubes can start with it, since the core needs only a little.
