DianSheng Solar 3x3 M (Lite)

DianSheng Solar 3x3 M (Lite) is an affordable magnetic 3x3 cube in a stickerless version. "Lite" means simplified packaging: the cube comes in a plain cardboard box with no accessories. This makes it one of the cheapest magnetic cubes available. In looks and construction it is very similar to the popular MoYu MeiLong. It's a solid cube for everyday solving, not a model built to compete with flagships.

How it turns

Magnets in the corners and edges help a layer settle into place after a turn. For a beginner, this is a big step up from a non-magnetic cube: it's easier to line up the layers, and you'll get fewer lockups on layers that aren't fully turned. The plastic has a matte finish and the turning is smooth.

Out of the box, the cube is usually set up quite tight. Corner cutting is average at that point, and the cube feels slower than it really is. Loosening the tension slightly clearly improves corner cutting and speed. Just keep in mind that the looser the cube, the lower the stability and the higher the risk of pops. With reasonable turning, a slight loosening shouldn't cause any problems. Tension adjustment options are limited. Some users find that once loosened, the cube becomes too fast and not stable enough for them.

M Lite version vs Solar 3E

DianSheng also offers the Solar 3E, a cheaper version without magnets. Either one is enough to learn your first algorithm. However, the magnets in the M version make it easier to move on to faster solving, so the cube won't hold back your progress as soon.

Who is it for?

As a first magnetic cube for a child or an adult, as a spare cube for your backpack, or in multiples, for example for multiblind or a school cube club. A speedcuber who wants to fine-tune a cube to their own style will find more options in models with an advanced adjustment system.
