FangShi 2x2x2 Discrete Pyramid is a shape-shifting puzzle from the LimCube series. On the outside it looks like a pyramid, but inside it runs on a 2x2x2 cube mechanism. The model was released in 2018 and designed by Guan Yang. It is an extended version of the FangShi Frame Pyraminx. It has the same 2x2 Ball-Core and pyramid shape, but each face gets an extra layer of pieces. This makes solving it noticeably harder.

How this pyramid works

The mechanism is based on a 2x2x2, so every turn is a deep cut through the whole puzzle, not just a tip turn like on a classic Pyraminx. After a few moves the pyramid loses its shape and turns into various irregular forms. Solving it means not only matching the colors but also restoring the original shape. There are no stickers on this puzzle. The pieces are made of colored plastic (stickerless), with one color for each face of the pyramid.

What to expect when turning

Discrete Pyramid is a puzzle for calm, thoughtful solving, not for speedcubing. Users often mention that the turning is fairly heavy and requires precise alignment of the layers. Forcing the turns can cause popping. It is best to turn gently and make sure the layers are well aligned before the next move.
