This puzzle looks like a pyraminx, but inside it has a 2x2 cube mechanism. The FangShi 2x2x2 Transform Pyraminx is a tetrahedron-shaped shape mod from the LimCube line, a so-called pyramorphix, extended with additional pieces. In the middle of each edge there is a round piece that can be turned independently of the rest. Because of this, the puzzle scrambles in ways that are impossible on a regular pyramorphix. The model is stickerless, in the bright colour scheme.

How it differs from a regular pyramorphix

The faces turn just like on a 2x2 cube, so if you know the 2x2, you'll pick up the basics quickly. On top of that come the round pieces on the edges. On a 2x2 cube they would correspond to face centres, which the classic 2x2 doesn't have. These pieces rotate independently, and when solving you have to set them in the correct orientation. Once they are turned, the puzzle loses its tetrahedron shape until they return to place. This is an extra step that you won't find on a regular 2x2 or a pyramorphix.

How it turns

According to user reviews, turning is smooth with a slightly sandy feel. Corner cutting is practically non-existent, and with so many pieces and axes of rotation, aligning the layers before the next move takes a bit of attention. This is not a cube for setting fast times. It's a puzzle for relaxed, intuitive solving, where figuring things out matters more than TPS.

For people who can already solve the 2x2 or the pyraminx and want something new without memorizing lots of algorithms. Don't force-twist the corners on puzzles with a 2x2 mechanism (corner twisting). You could break a piece this way.
