FanXin Pyraminx Mod V1

This puzzle from FanXin is a Pyraminx in a different shape. It has two layers, and its mechanism is based on the classic Pyraminx. FanXin Pyraminx Mod V1 is the easiest of the three versions in this series. It works well as a first shape mod for anyone who can already solve a regular Pyraminx and wants to try something different. The puzzle comes in the stickerless bright version, so there are no stickers that could peel off or wear away.

How to solve it

The key pieces are the tips, the small corners that turn independently. Just like on a regular Pyraminx, the tips tell you which colour each face should be. If you know how to use them, you'll be able to solve this mod too. The hardest part is the beginning, because you need to get used to the new shape and learn to recognise pieces that look different from those on a classic Pyraminx. Once you've got the hang of it, solving becomes easy.

V1, V2 or V3?

FanXin has released three versions of this mod, and each one is harder than the previous one:

• V1 is the easiest and a good place to start with Pyraminx shape mods.
• V2 is of medium difficulty and requires a slightly different approach to solving.
• V3 is the hardest, because it also has centers. That's why the usual Pyraminx solving method isn't enough here.

If you can't decide between the versions, start with V1. It's better to first understand how the whole series works and only then move on to the harder versions.

Who is it for?

For people who know the Pyraminx and want a new challenge, for collectors of unusual puzzles, and for kids who have already mastered the classic version. This is not a speedsolving puzzle: it has no magnets, and shape mods are not allowed in WCA competitions. If you've never solved a Pyraminx, it will be easier to start with the regular model. After that, this mod will feel much simpler.
