FanXin Pyraminx Mod V3

FanXin Pyraminx Mod V3 is a Pyraminx shape mod: a pyramid-shaped puzzle that works differently inside than the classic Pyraminx. It is the hardest version in FanXin's whole mod series. The mechanism matches Jing's Pyraminx, which is essentially a Pyraminx with extra centers. Solving them takes a separate step that the regular Pyraminx doesn't have. The puzzle is stickerless in a bright color scheme and has no magnets.

How to solve it

If you can solve a Pyraminx, you already know a good part of the work: the corners and edges are placed in a similar way. The challenge lies in the centers. You need to bring them to their correct positions without breaking up the rest, which takes some thinking and your own sequences. For many people, this is a good first step towards unusual puzzles and shape mods.

Practical note: the tips (the small points of the pyramid) can be turned, but the design isn't meant for it. Don't force them to turn. Also, don't push moves that meet resistance.

V1, V2 or V3?

The Pyraminx Mod series comes in three versions of increasing difficulty:

• V1 is a two-layer mod and clearly the easiest. If you can recognize a face's color by its tips on a Pyraminx, you'll solve it with no trouble.
• V2 solves just like a Pyraminx without tips, so knowing the regular Pyraminx is enough.
• V3 has extra centers, which makes it the hardest of the three.

If you're just starting out with mods, V1 or V2 is a better choice. If you already know the Pyraminx and want a new problem to crack, you can go straight for V3.

Who is it for?

This is a collector's and recreational puzzle, not gear for setting fast times. It isn't a WCA event and doesn't have typical speedcubing features such as magnets or tension adjustment. It's a great fit for anyone who enjoys the Pyraminx and wants something harder. It also makes an interesting gift for an older child who has already mastered their first puzzles.
