FanXin Pyraminx Mod V2

FanXin Pyraminx Mod V2 is a Pyraminx shape mod: a puzzle that works like a regular Pyraminx but has pieces with a different shape. In terms of solving, it is equivalent to a Pyraminx without tips. There are no extra pieces and no new algorithms. What gets harder is recognising where everything is, because the unusual shape makes the state of the puzzle harder to read. This is the stickerless bright version, with no stickers.

How to solve it

If you know a Pyraminx method, you can solve the V2 with the same algorithms. The only difference is orientation: you usually read the face colours from the tips, but here there are none, so you have to work them out from the remaining pieces. It's a small change, but it forces you to think a little differently, and you'll quickly notice which steps you used to do "from muscle memory".

The puzzle has no magnets. It's meant for fun and for your collection, not for setting times. For Pyraminx competitions you need a classic model, ideally a magnetic one.

V1, V2 or V3?

FanXin has released three Pyraminx shape mods that differ in difficulty:

• V1: the easiest, two-layer. All you need is to be able to determine the face colour from the tips.
• V2: medium difficulty. It solves like a Pyraminx without tips.
• V3: the hardest. It solves like a Jing's Pyraminx, i.e. a Pyraminx with centres, which adds an extra step.

Who is it for?

For those who can already solve a Pyraminx and want something new without learning a whole method from scratch. It also works well as another addition to a shape mod collection or as a small gift for a cuber who already owns the basic puzzles. If you're just starting out with the Pyraminx, it's easier to learn on a classic model and come back to this mod later.
