GAN 356 ME LNY Edition

GAN 356 ME LNY Edition is a limited Lunar New Year version of the GAN 356 ME magnetic 3x3 cube. GAN released it to celebrate Chinese New Year 2025, the Year of the Snake. The mechanism is the same as in the regular 356 ME. What's different is the look and the extras: yellow-gold internal pieces, green magnet capsules and a gold GAN logo. The cube comes in the stickerless bright version.

What's inside

• 48 magnets in capsules (Turbo Magnet Capsule 2.0). They help the layers snap into place and keep the cube stable during faster turning.
• GES Pro+, meaning 4 spring tension levels and 3 center travel levels (the distance of the centers from the core). That gives you 12 combinations, from a looser, faster setup to a tighter, more controllable one.
• Wing-shaped core 2.0, GAN's core designed to guide the layers as they turn.
• Honeycomb-shaped contact surfaces. The grooves help spread lube evenly through the mechanism.

How it turns

The 356 ME is GAN's budget model. It has no magnet strength adjustment or MagLev, which you'll find in the brand's more expensive cubes. It's light (approx. 77 g), and some people describe it as feeling slightly "hollow" in the hand. Opinions on the out-of-the-box feel vary. Some praise its smoothness and corner cutting, while others say the cube is dry, a bit sandy and can catch. A good lube job and the right GES settings usually help. If you want more adjustment options, consider the GAN 356 M.

Lunar New Year edition

The cube comes in a special occasion box. The set also includes a Lunar New Year cube bag and snake-themed stickers you can use to decorate one of the faces. The stickers are optional; without them, it stays a regular stickerless cube.

For anyone looking for their first decent magnetic cube with adjustment, and for collectors of GAN's limited editions. It also makes a great gift. If you already own a flagship cube and want something faster, you won't gain any performance here, as only the look has changed.
