GAN 460 M V2 4x4

This is GAN's second-generation magnetic 4x4. The GAN 460 M V2 4x4 measures 60 mm and weighs about 110 g, which puts it right in the typical size range of today's 4x4 speed cubes. The biggest change is in the magnets. The first version had 96 of them, while the V2 has 160, spread across the outer, inner and middle layers.

Mechanism and magnets

• 160 magnets in three zones. The magnets in the inner layers help the slices settle into place. On a 4x4 this comes in handy for moves like Rw and Uw and during edge pairing.
• Two-layer construction. "X-mas tree" edges and dual corner tracks are designed to reduce popping and keep the cube in shape during fast turning.
• Thicker outer layers that hold the cube's shape better.
• One-piece inner shell, ultrasonically welded. The contact surfaces have a honeycomb texture that helps spread the lube.
• Third-generation Turbo magnetic capsules, welded and tightly sealed.
• Tension adjustment, so you can set the cube looser or tighter.

How it turns

The 460 M V2 is fast, and you can feel distinct magnetic "clicks" on the inner layers too. This gives you good control over slices. User opinions are not unanimous, though. Some people feel that with so many magnets the cube is less forgiving and lockups happen more easily when your turning is imprecise. In comparisons with the MoYu AoSu, the AoSu is often described as more forgiving. If you like solid, tightly "settled" cubes that give you a lot of feedback under your fingers, the V2 should suit you. If you prefer a more flexible and calmer 4x4, compare it with other models before you buy.

GAN 460 M V2 versions

The V2 mechanism comes in several variants. The UV Coated version has a glossy coating and stronger grip, while the Frosted version has a matte surface. The SP version does not have the 48 magnets in the middle layers, leaving it with 112 magnets. It's a cheaper option for those who don't need the full magnet system.

Who is it for?

For cubers who solve 4x4 regularly or want to move from a budget cube to a flagship model, and who want the inner layers to line up reliably. To learn the reduction method, a cheaper magnetic 4x4 is enough. The advantages of the 460 M V2 only really show at faster solving speeds.
