A classic Crazy Megaminx has one circle on each face. The MF8 Triple Crazy Megaminx has three circles, one inside the other, on each of its twelve faces. This version is a limited edition in Transparent. This puzzle is for people who have already mastered the regular Megaminx and want a challenge that makes them think. Fast turning doesn't matter here.

How the Triple Crazy Megaminx works

In the middle of each face there is a center, surrounded by three circles. Each circle can either be connected to the center or independent of it. This determines which pieces move when you turn a given face. The faces are described with a three-digit code, read from the inner circle to the outer one. Each digit tells you whether that circle is connected to the center.

This puzzle has four face types: 000, 001, 011 and 111, with three faces of each type. That's why the faces don't all behave the same way, and before each move you need to know what type of face you are turning. This is exactly where the difficulty of the Triple Crazy Megaminx comes from.

Turning and solving

This is not a speedcubing puzzle. After you turn a face, the circles have to line up before you can turn the next face. You will often need to wiggle the layer slightly back and forth to get everything aligned. As a result, turning is calm and requires precision. With fast, imprecise moves, the puzzle won't let you move smoothly on to the next turn.

You usually start with the edges of the inner circles. They are solved in a similar way to the Venus Megaminx. Then you move on to the next circles and use faces of different types to put pieces in place. Experience with a Crazy 3x3 with two circles helps a lot, because working with the circles here is similar.

Transparent Limited Edition

The Limited Edition version has a transparent finish. The standard MF8 Triple Crazy Megaminx comes in other colors, including milky and black. So the limited edition stands out mainly for its looks. It's aimed primarily at collectors of MF8 puzzles and at people who want this puzzle in a less common version.

Who is it for?

For people who can solve a Megaminx and know at least the basics of Crazy-type puzzles. For a first Megaminx, or for a child who is just starting out, a classic model is a better choice. The Triple Crazy Megaminx is a puzzle for long solving sessions and for your collection, not for breaking records.
