MoYu MeiLong 3x3 Magnetic is an affordable magnetic 3x3 cube from the MeiLong series (Cubing Classroom / MFJS), sold in a set with a robot that works as a box and a stand. The MeiLong 3M has been on the market since 2020 and has been a common choice for people buying their first magnetic cube ever since. This set includes the first version (V1) with matte plastic in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The magnets are installed by the manufacturer, so the cube is ready to solve straight out of the box. They are on the light to medium side. The layers clearly settle into place, yet the cube doesn't feel "heavy" to turn. Compared with a regular non-magnetic cube, it's easier to land your moves and overshooting happens less often. Turning is smooth and controlled. It is still a budget model, so it won't match flagship cubes in corner cutting and mechanism refinement. Some users say the cube gets better after a short setup, i.e. adjusting the tension and adding lube.

The plastic is matte (frosted) and has medium grip. If you prefer a glossy surface that grips your fingers more, you can choose the MeiLong 3M V2 in the UV Coated version, but that version does not come with the robot.

Robot included

• The robot's arms and legs can be raised and lowered.
• The front "window" can be removed and put back on, so it's easy to put the cube inside and take it out.
• Several robots can be stacked on top of each other, which comes in handy if you have more MeiLongs in this edition in your collection.

Who is it for?

This set works well as a first magnetic cube and as a gift for a child. The robot is a nice extra and also protects the cube when nobody is using it. The cube is also suitable for learning your first solving methods and as a spare 3x3 for your backpack. If you're aiming for high TPS and comparing flagship models, this set is enough to get started, but over time you'll probably want a cube with more adjustment options.
