What kind of cubes are these

MeiLong is MoYu's budget line. All cubes in this set are non-magnetic. They have a classic screw-and-spring mechanism in the core, so you can adjust the tension on each of them, i.e. how tightly the layers are pressed together. A tighter setting gives you more control, while a looser one makes turning easier, but the cube is then more likely to fall apart (popping).

Without magnets, the layers don't align themselves. You need to finish your turns more precisely, and lockups are more likely during fast turning. You'll notice this most on the 6x6 and 7x7, because with so many layers a slightly misaligned row quickly blocks the next move. When you're just starting out, this isn't a problem and it even teaches you to turn more carefully. For a speedcuber chasing faster times, these will be practice cubes rather than competition gear.

Who is this set for?

• Beginners who can already solve a 3x3 and want to move on to bigger cubes. The successive sizes let you learn reduction (centers, edges, parity) step by step, from 4x4 to 7x7.
