MoYu Meilong WCA Non Cubic Cubes Bundle

Four puzzles that aren't NxN cubes but have their own events at official WCA competitions. The MoYu Meilong WCA Non Cubic Cubes Bundle includes the Meilong Megaminx, Pyraminx, Skewb and Square-1. All of them come in the stickerless bright version and have no magnets. This lets you try several events outside the 2x2-7x7 range in one go and find out which one suits you best.

What's in the bundle

• Meilong Megaminx: a dodecahedron with 12 pentagonal faces. It takes the longest to solve of the four, but the beginner method is similar to solving a 3x3 layer by layer, so if you already know the 3x3, you'll quickly find your way around it.
• Meilong Pyraminx: a tetrahedron and one of the shortest WCA events. You can learn the basics quickly, which is why many people start with it.
• Meilong Skewb: shaped like a cube, but its axes of rotation pass through the corners. As a result, every move changes all six faces.
• Meilong Square-1: a puzzle that loses its shape when scrambled. First you have to restore its cube shape, and only then solve the colors. For many people it's the hardest puzzle in the bundle.

How they turn

Meilong is MoYu's budget series, so you shouldn't compare these puzzles with flagship models. Without magnets the turning is lighter and the layers don't snap into place on their own. You need to turn more precisely, otherwise lockups can happen, especially at the beginning. Users point out that the Megaminx may catch slightly straight out of the box, but it loosens up noticeably after lubing. For learning and your first competitions, these puzzles are more than enough.

Who is it for?

For someone who already solves the 3x3 and wants to try something new without buying four separate puzzles right away. The bundle also makes a great gift for a child who has already mastered their first cubes, and for anyone preparing for their first competition in several events. If you start seriously chasing results in one of these events, you'll usually switch to a magnetic or flagship model of that particular puzzle over time. As a starting point, though, this bundle is a sensible foundation.
