MoYu RS Maglev Skewb

The MoYu RS Maglev Skewb is a skewb from the RS series, MoYu's budget line. This model has been on the market since 2022. It has positioning magnets and the MagLev system, which means the core uses repelling magnets instead of springs. The version available in our shop is stickerless bright with a matte (frosted) finish and no UV coating.

How it turns

Out of the box, the RS Maglev is very fast and needs very little force to turn. Some users even find it too fast and too loose on the factory settings. Layers can turn just from picking the puzzle up. Usually it's enough to tighten the tension and apply a thicker lube, and the skewb becomes much more controllable. Reviewers most often rate the magnet strength as medium to strong, although some feel a skewb could use a bit more. The feel is smooth, and every move ends with a distinct "click". It's not a particularly quiet puzzle.

MagLev or standard version?

The RS Skewb also comes in a spring version. Both variants have positioning magnets; they differ in the system inside the core. MagLev gives lighter, faster turning. It also has a purple internal plastic, while the spring version has internals in the colors of the faces. According to distributors, the MagLev is also slightly heavier (68 g vs. 66 g). Some people don't notice much difference between the versions. If you prefer a calmer, more stable skewb and don't want to do much adjusting, you may be happier with the cheaper spring version.

Who is it for?

For anyone starting out with skewb who wants a magnetic puzzle right away instead of the cheapest non-magnetic models. It also works well as a first main for practice and competitions (skewb is an official WCA event). You will, however, need to spend a moment on setup.
