MoYu Super RS3M 3x3x3: the 2022 version of the RS3M

For years, the RS3M has been one of the most frequently recommended cubes for people switching from a regular supermarket cube to proper speedcubing gear. MoYu Super RS3M 3x3x3 is the 2022 version and the successor to the RS3M 2020 and 2021. We offer the basic variant: a magnetic cube with classic springs, without MagLev and without Ball-Core, in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

Straight out of the box, the Super RS3M is very fast. Some reviewers even find it too fast until it has been set up. The feel is stable and fairly "blocky", similar to the RS3M 2020. The magnets pull the layers firmly into place, which helps you keep a steady rhythm during algorithms. Corner cutting is good, so small inaccuracies when turning rarely end in a lockup. Compared with its predecessor, the cube is louder, with a more distinct click. If you prefer a more controllable feel, you can apply a thicker lube and tighten the settings. The cube then becomes noticeably calmer.

Adjustment and design

The biggest change compared with the RS3M 2020 is the dual-adjustment system with 9 settings. With the included key, you adjust tension and compression separately, without unscrewing any screws. The difference between loose and tight settings is easy to feel, so this cube is a great way to learn how setup affects the feel. It is better to experiment on it than on an expensive flagship cube. The pieces have a new "dragon scale" texture designed to spread lube more evenly. The plastic is glossy, the logo is printed, and the centres have slightly chamfered edges.

Standard version or MagLev and Ball-Core?

The Super RS3M is also available in a MagLev version, in which the springs are replaced with repelling magnets, and a Ball-Core version with MagLev and magnets in the core. Both are slightly heavier. The standard version is the closest to the classic RS3M. Reviewers rate it as a moderate rather than groundbreaking improvement on its predecessor. For a beginner who wants one solid cube that will last, it is more than enough. For an advanced cuber, it works well as an inexpensive practice cube or a backup cube you can carry in your backpack without worry.
