MoYu Super RS3M Ball-Core 3x3x3

MoYu Super RS3M Ball-Core 3x3x3 is the best-equipped version of the 2022 Super RS3M. This series replaced the popular RS3M 2020. The cube combines two features that used to appear mainly on more expensive models: MagLev instead of springs, and Ball-Core, which means magnets in the core. This model comes in a stickerless bright color scheme.

How the Super RS3M versions differ

The 2022 Super RS3M series comes in three versions, all 56 mm in size:

• Standard: classic springs and 48 magnets.
• MagLev: the springs are replaced with repelling magnets, 60 magnets in total.
• Ball-Core (this cube): MagLev plus extra magnets between the corners and the spherical core, 76 magnets in total.

There is also the newer Super RS3M V2 from 2023. It is slightly smaller (55.5 mm), has a UV coating and a different magnet layout. This cube is the first version (2022), without UV.

How it turns

The cube is fast and has a light turning feel. MagLev reduces friction and removes the typical spring noise. The core magnets pull the corners toward the center, so the layers align more readily on their own and the cube is more stable than the versions without Ball-Core. The manufacturer claims auto-alignment from about 35 degrees. Reviews, however, describe this effect as rather subtle, and the core magnets are not among the strongest. The feel is crisp and slightly blocky. If you prefer very soft and smooth cubes, you may need a moment to get used to it. Straight out of the box, the cube can be loose and very fast. It is usually worth tightening the settings and adding some lube.

Tension adjustment

The Super RS3M has a dual-adjustment system with 9 settings, which you change with a key. This lets you set the cube up more for speed or more for control without taking the mechanism apart.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants a cube with MagLev and Ball-Core but doesn't need a flagship at several times the price. It is a good main for an intermediate cuber and a sensible second cube for more experienced solvers. If you prefer a lighter, freer turning feel without the pull toward the core, you can choose the regular MagLev version. For a child's first cube, the Standard version is more than enough.
