Picube RS3M 2021 Core Magnet

Picube RS3M 2021 Core Magnet

Picube RS3M 2021 Core Magnet is a special edition of the budget MoYu RS3M 2021 3x3 cube, prepared by Picube. Picube is a brand that has been making its own versions of popular MoYu models for years. On top of the base RS3M 2021 with the MagLev system, this version adds core magnets. The cube is 56 mm in size and comes in a stickerless bright version.

What MagLev does and what the core magnets do

• MagLev. Instead of springs on the screws, there are pairs of repelling magnets. You get less friction and, above all, no typical spring noise. The mechanism and pieces come from the RS3M 2020; the only difference is the system that replaces the springs.
• Core Magnets. Additional magnets in the core pull the pieces towards the centre of the cube. The layers align more readily, and the cube feels more "together" during fast turning.
• Tension adjustment. Tension is set with the blue adjustment system, the same one as in the RS3M 2020. With MagLev, the change is not linear: at higher settings the tension increases noticeably more.

How it turns

The standard RS3M 2021 MagLev is very fast out of the box, and some people point out its rather weak magnets and a sandy feeling at first. That is exactly why the core magnet versions became popular. Users comparing both variants describe them as more stable and more controllable, with a more noticeable, even magnet feel. Still, this is a mid-range cube, not a flagship, so we don't compare it to top GAN or MoYu models. A few drops of lube and some tension tweaking usually improve the feel a lot.

Core Magnet or the regular RS3M 2021 MagLev?

If the regular RS3M 2021 feels too fast to you and a bit "floaty", the Core Magnet version should feel calmer. If you like light, very fast turning and a weaker magnetic feel, you can stick with the cheaper base version.

Who is it for?

For those who already have their first cube behind them and want an affordable 3x3 with MagLev and more stable behaviour. It also works well as a second cube for a speedcuber who likes the classic feel of the RS3M series. It's also fine as a first cube for a child, although there's no need to choose it over the regular magnetic version.
