Picube WeiLong Skewb Core Magnet

Picube WeiLong Skewb Core Magnet

Picube makes factory modifications of cubes. This time it took the MoYu WeiLong Skewb MagLev and added magnets to the core. The result is the Picube WeiLong Skewb Core Magnet: a skewb with MagLev, adjustable magnet strength and extra attraction between the core and the corners. The Skewb is a puzzle whose layers turn around the corners rather than around the faces. It is also an official WCA event. We sell this model in the Stickerless Bright colour scheme, meaning it has no stickers.

What the Core Magnet modification does

In the regular WeiLong Skewb, the magnets only work between the pieces. Picube fits 3D-printed caps with magnets to the core and the corners. As a result, the corners are additionally pulled towards the centre of the puzzle. In practice, a layer settles back into place more reliably after a turn, and during fast sequences it is less likely to be left slightly misaligned. The modification is mainly meant to improve stability and control, not to add speed. Using a skewb in this version, Harry Owen took 3rd place in the Skewb event at the 2025 UK Championships.

The base: MoYu WeiLong Skewb MagLev

Under the modification is the mechanism of the standard WeiLong Skewb MagLev. Instead of springs, the core uses repelling magnets (MagLev), so turning is light and fast. In the base model, the magnet strength in the pieces can be set to 5 levels, and the core has dual adjustment with 9 settings. The pieces have purple textured plastic inside, which reduces friction between the layers. Users of the base version praise it for being fast right out of the box and for its smooth feeling.

Regular WeiLong or Core Magnet?

The standard WeiLong Skewb MagLev is a fast skewb with good adjustability. For getting started or for casual solving, it is more than enough. The Core Magnet version makes sense mainly for people who solve the skewb against the clock and want the puzzle to keep the layers aligned on its own during aggressive turning. If you are just starting out with the skewb or buying a first one for a child, the cheaper, unmodified version is the more sensible choice.
