3D Magnetic Tangram B

3D Magnetic Tangram B is a magnetic version of the classic Chinese puzzle from QiYi. The set contains seven transparent pieces, which you use to build the shapes shown in the included booklet. The rules are the same as in a traditional tangram. The difference is that the pieces are three-dimensional and have magnets, so they stick to each other.

How tangram works

The set consists of five triangles, a square and a parallelogram. Your task is to build a given silhouette from them, e.g. an animal, a figure or an object. In most cases you need to use all seven pieces. It sounds simple, but the harder patterns require good spatial imagination and a bit of experimenting. It also works well as a brain teaser when you want a break from cubing.

What the magnets give you

In a flat cardboard or wooden tangram, the pieces slide around easily and the finished shape falls apart at the first touch. Here the magnets hold the pieces together, so you can pick up the finished figure, look at it from all sides or stand it up. The pieces are not flat tiles but have noticeable thickness. Thanks to this, some shapes can also be built vertically, not just laid out on the table.

Version B or A?

QiYi sells this tangram in two versions. The pieces are the same in both; only the packaging differs. Version A comes in a small cardboard box. Version B has larger, more carefully made packaging, which makes it a better choice for a gift.

Who is it for?

Tangram is a great puzzle for children, who train their spatial imagination and logical thinking with it. Adults who enjoy puzzles that make you think, but not necessarily against the clock, will like it too. You don't need any speedcubing knowledge. Just open the booklet and start building.
