SengSo 4x4 Magnetic Clock V2 Limited is a limited colour edition of the second-generation magnetic Clock from ShengShou (SengSo is this manufacturer's brand). It is the classic Clock puzzle used in the WCA event: 9 dials on each side and 4 pins that determine which dials turn together. It comes in two colour variants: Green and Red.

What's new in V2

The first ShengShou magnetic Clock was the first mass-produced Clock with magnets, but it only had magnets in the pins. For V2, the manufacturer redesigned the mechanism. There are magnets in the pins and by the gears, so every turn snaps to the next hour with a distinct click. According to distributors, the whole mechanism has 224 magnets in total. The wheels have a grooved surface for better grip, and the housing has rounded edges.

How it solves

Users praise V2 for turning smoothly right out of the box. You don't have to spend much time breaking it in and setting it up, which is typical of cheaper Clocks. The magnets help the dials settle on full hours, so you need fewer corrections when turning fast. The design resembles the QiYi Clock, which has been the standard in this event for years, but the dial and hand pattern is different. Some testers point out that recognising the position of the hands takes a little getting used to. Advanced Clock solvers often modify their puzzles further (lube, different wheels or stronger magnets), but that comes down to individual setup.

Limited or standard?

The Limited version differs from the standard V2 in its colours. The green variant has a green and yellow finish and, according to distributors, was produced in a run of 2000 units worldwide. The plastic is semi-glossy with medium grip. If you simply want a Clock for practice, the standard version is enough. The Limited edition makes sense when looks or collecting matter to you too.

Who is it for?

For those starting out with Clock who want gear that works well straight away, without lengthy preparation. It's also a good choice for speedcubers who want to try an alternative to QiYi. Clock doesn't require knowledge of cube algorithms, so it also makes a great gift for a child who already solves the 3x3.
