This category contains only classic Pyraminx puzzles, the three-layer tetrahedrons used in the official WCA event. The models differ mainly in their mechanism, magnets and adjustment options. Here you will find simple budget Pyraminx puzzles without magnets, magnetic versions and models with a MagLev system. Other variants, such as larger pyramids or the Pyramorphix, are in the parent category Pyraminx.
A Pyraminx takes far fewer moves to solve than a 3x3 cube, and good times are measured in seconds. That is why every overshoot (turning a layer too far) and every lockup (a layer getting stuck mid-turn) has a big impact on your result. A good Pyraminx should stop each layer exactly in the right place, and its tips, the small corners that turn independently, should move easily without coming loose.
For a child or for a first try with the Pyraminx, a cheap model without magnets or a simple magnetic one is more than enough. Magnet strength, tension and turning feel only start to matter once you train regularly for time. A more expensive flagship gives you more adjustment options, but it will not always be better than a good magnetic model. If you prefer stability and control, choose a magnetic Pyraminx with a distinct click. If you want the lightest possible turning and are ready to spend time on setup, consider MagLev versions or GAN models with the full set of adjustments.
