A five-layer 2x2 tower from WitEden measuring approx. 51 x 51 x 128 mm, with all pieces the same size. The end faces turn in 90-degree steps and the sides in 180-degree steps. This non-magnetic puzzle is designed for collectors and cuboid fans, not for speedcubing.
A five-layer tower built on a 2x2 cube. The WitEden 2x2x5 Cuboid has two layers in width and depth and five layers in height. All pieces have the same dimensions in all three directions, so the puzzle keeps its proportions: the base measures approx. 51 x 51 mm and the height is approx. 128 mm. The version available in our shop has a black body.
The 2x2 faces at the ends of the tower turn in 90-degree steps, just like on a regular 2x2. The longer 2x5 sides can only be turned 180 degrees, because after a quarter turn they would no longer fit the rest of the shape. This changes the way you solve it quite a lot. The 2x2 method alone is not enough, and some algorithms from the 3x3 and 2x2 cubes need to be adapted. If you already know a few classic cubes, this is a great chance to work out solutions on your own.
This is a collector's puzzle, not a speed cube. It has no magnets and no tension adjustment, and the turning is noticeably less smooth than on modern speedcubing cubes. WitEden puzzles often have a slightly dry, "scratchy" feel, so it's a good idea to lube them after taking them out of the box. More aggressive turning can cause popping. Pieces that pop out can usually be pushed back in by hand. Don't twist the corners the way you would on a regular 2x2, as this can break them.
WitEden also makes the 2x2x5 II model. It has an offset rotation axis, so it changes shape as you solve it. The product described here is the basic 2x2x5 Cuboid. When choosing between them, check the model name, because these two puzzles are solved differently.
For people who collect cuboids and unusual puzzles, or who are looking for a change from NxNxN cubes. It is not a good choice as a child's first cube. It's better to start with a classic 3x3 or 2x2 and reach for the 2x2x5 only once you've mastered the basics.
