YuXin Little Magic Megaminx V3 Magnetic

YuXin Little Magic Megaminx V3 Magnetic is the third generation of the budget megaminx from YuXin and the first version of the Little Magic Megaminx series with factory-installed magnets. The previous V2 had no magnets. Now the layers clearly "click" into place, so it's easier to align them before the next move and lockups happen less often. The puzzle comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

Grip and design

YuXin didn't go for thicker edges here. Instead, the surface of the pieces has grooves that improve grip and give you more control while solving. The plastic is matte and the grip is medium. You'll also find grooves on the internal pieces, where, according to the manufacturer, they are meant to reduce friction. The corners have a small rounding radius so they hold better with the edges and reduce popping. The V3 is smaller than the V2, which you'll appreciate if a megaminx usually feels too big in your hands.

How the Little Magic Megaminx V3 M turns

The puzzle comes dry. Straight out of the box it can feel stiff, and the turning can sometimes be sandy. Reviewers and buyers agree that it performs noticeably better once lubed and with the tension set. The magnets are usually described as medium to strong. However, some users report that the factory tension isn't even on all faces. The adjustment screws let you fix this on each face separately. So it's best to assume from the start that you'll need to spend a little time on the setup before your first serious solves.

Who is it for?

It's a good first magnetic megaminx if you've already mastered the 3x3 and want to try a bigger puzzle without spending a lot. It also works well as an inexpensive backup or practice puzzle. A speedcuber who regularly competes in megaminx will usually feel more at home with higher-end models, e.g. those with MagLev or Ball-Core. This puzzle is legal for official competitions.
