Z-LUBE Alpha (Speed) – cube lube 10 ml

This is a new cube lube from Zcube's Z-LUBE line. The word Speed in the name tells you what it is for: it is meant to make your cube turn lighter and faster. It is not designed to slow a cube down or make it quieter. Z-LUBE Alpha (Speed) comes in a 10 ml bottle, so with sensible use it lasts for many lubing sessions.

Speed lube – what is it actually for?

Speedcubers usually divide lubes into two groups. Lighter, faster lubes are applied to the cube pieces to make turning lighter and the cube faster. Thicker ones go on the core, screws and springs, where they add control and make the mechanism quieter. Based on its label, Alpha belongs to the first group. We do not list its viscosity or composition because we have not been able to confirm them.

Alpha vs. classic Z-Lube

Zcube has also been making the classic Z-Lube for years. It is a thin lube known for speeding up a cube quickly, but also for drying out fairly fast. Alpha is a separate product. If you know the old Z-Lube, do not assume in advance that the new lube behaves the same way. It is best to test it on your own cube and compare it with your current setup.

How to use

• If your cube was previously lubed with a different lube, clean it first. Mixing different lubes makes it harder to judge the effect.
• Apply only a little. For a 3x3 cube, a few drops on the pieces are usually enough. Bigger cubes need proportionally more.
• After applying, do several dozen turns in all directions so the lube spreads evenly.
• If the cube turns heavier or unevenly, you have used too much lube. It is better to remove the excess than to wait for it to spread out on its own.

Who is it for?

For cubers whose cube feels too slow or "dry" and who want to set it up more for speed. The lube is also useful for refreshing a cube after long use. If your cube is already very fast and hard to control, a speed lube is unlikely to change that. In that case, a thicker lube is a better choice.
