ZePuzzle Squished 2x2 is a 3D-printed shape mod of a 2x2 cube. Underneath it runs a regular 2x2 mechanism, but the body is "squished", so the cube doesn't look like a cube at all. The real fun starts when you scramble it: after every turn the puzzle takes on a different, often surprising shape. The mechanics stay the same, but the cube keeps looking different.

How it solves

The moves are the same as on a classic 2x2, so the methods you already know still work. What's harder is recognizing the pieces. The unusual geometry makes it harder to orient yourself, and habits you've built on a regular 2x2 can easily let you down here. That's why solving the Squished 2x2 takes some experience. Once it's solved, you'll probably want to scramble it again right away to see more shapes.

What to expect from the turning

This is a 3D-printed puzzle, not a speed cube. Turning is stiffer and less smooth than on modern injection-molded 2x2 cubes, and the cube has no magnets. That's normal for this kind of construction. If you're looking for a cube for timed speedsolving, go for a classic magnetic 2x2. You buy the Squished 2x2 for its shape and for the joy of solving it. The cube uses tiles, i.e. colored plates glued onto the pieces, instead of regular stickers. Tiles are more durable than stickers and feel nice in your hand. Don't force the corners when twisting, as the printed pieces may not withstand it.

Who is it for?

For cubers who can already solve a 2x2 and want something different from yet another faster cube. The Squished 2x2 is also a great pick for collectors of shape mods and shape-shifting puzzles. It's not a good choice as a first cube for someone who is just learning to solve: it's easier to start with a regular 2x2 and reach for the Squished later.
