A 3D-printed corner-turning puzzle designed by Jacob Keener. It has a black body and coloured tiles arranged in a circular pattern. The layers turn around the corners, making it a great choice for collectors and cubers who already know the classic cubes.
ZePuzzles Circle Compy Cube (Tiled) is a 3D-printed corner-turning puzzle designed by Jacob Keener, a designer well known among collectors of unusual twisty puzzles. It has a black body, and its faces are covered with coloured tiles (raised tiles instead of stickers) arranged in a circular pattern, which gives the puzzle its name. It is a puzzle for your collection and for solving just for fun, not for setting record times.
On a classic 3x3 you turn the faces. Here the layers turn around the corners, so the pieces move in a completely different way, and knowing 3x3 methods is not enough. To solve this puzzle, you need to understand how the pieces travel around the corners. If you already know the basic puzzles and are looking for something new, it is an interesting challenge. The circular pattern on the tiles also helps you track where the pieces are while you solve.
The Circle Compy Cube is 3D-printed, so you can see the typical print lines on it. This is a normal feature of the technology, not a defect of your copy. Buyers describe the tiles as matte and slightly rough to the touch, and the whole puzzle as solid and fairly heavy in the hand. According to reviews, it turns smoothly without noticeable catching, but starting a move can be harder because of the rounded pieces. These are user impressions, not technical specifications. Don't expect the light, fast turning of a magnetic speedcube.
For collectors of independent twisty puzzle designs and for cubers who already know the classic cubes and want to try a different kind of movement. As a first puzzle or a gift for a child who is just starting out, a simpler 3x3 or 2x2 cube is a better choice.
