Cubicle Silicone Weight 5 Lube

Cubicle Silicone Weight 5 Lube is a silicone cube lube from the Weight series (formerly Lubicle). The series comes in five viscosities, from Weight 1 to Weight 5. Weight 5 is the thickest and most viscous of them all, so people mainly buy it to slow a cube down and quiet the mechanism, not to make it faster. We offer it in a 10 ml syringe.

How a thick silicone lube works

The thinner lubes in this series (Weight 1 and 2) are mainly used to get rid of a dry, scratchy feel and smooth out turning. The thicker ones (Weight 4 and 5) noticeably slow the cube down. With Weight 5 applied, turning becomes heavier and more controlled, and the cube is less prone to overshooting. Thick silicone spreads less and stays in the mechanism longer than thin lubes, so you don't need to reapply it often.

If you put too much on the pieces, the cube can become "gummy" and slow. It's better to start with a small amount and add more if needed.

Where to apply it

• Core, screws and metal parts of the core are the main use for Weight 5. The thick lube stays in place well in these spots.
• Springs: cubers often apply it to the springs to dampen their typical "ringing" sound.
• Cube pieces: a thin layer is usually enough, and only if the cube is too fast or too loose for you.

Weight 5 or a thinner lube?

Weight 5 works well when a cube is too fast, hard to control or noisy. It can also be your main lube for the core and springs, combined with a thinner lube on the pieces. If you only want to smooth out a dry, new cube without slowing it down, go for a lower Weight. It's worth matching the viscosity to the cube and to the feel you like.
