DianSheng 24 Blocks Snake

DianSheng 24 Blocks Snake is a classic magic snake puzzle made of 24 segments shaped like triangular prisms. Unlike a 3x3 cube, a snake doesn't need to be "solved". There is no solved state and no single solution. You twist the segments one after another and build your own shapes from them, both flat and three-dimensional. This version comes in the Macaron colour scheme.

How the DianSheng snake works

The segments are linked into a single chain, and each one rotates by 90 degrees relative to its neighbour. A sequence of these twists creates a shape. With 24 pieces you can build a ball, as well as animals, letters and geometric forms. Some shapes are recreated from patterns, and you can come up with the rest on your own. One shape usually takes from a few to around fifteen minutes, so the snake is easy to pick up for a short break.

The 24-piece version is the standard size for this type of puzzle. It's long enough to build plenty of interesting shapes, yet it doesn't get tangled or feel overwhelming at the start. If after a while you want to build bigger structures, you can reach for a longer snake or combine several 24-piece ones.

Who is it for?

The snake makes a great first puzzle for a child who likes building and experimenting with shapes. You don't need to know any algorithms to play with it. It trains spatial imagination and patience, though it doesn't require as much focus as a cube. For cubers, it's a nice break from speedcubing or a desk fidget. It's not a puzzle you solve against the clock, so performance like that of speed cubes doesn't come into play here. What counts is creativity.
