DianSheng 48 Blocks Snake

DianSheng 48 Blocks Snake

DianSheng 48 Blocks Snake is a puzzle snake made of 48 wedge-shaped pieces. It works just like a classic snake: the segments are linked in a single chain, and each one rotates relative to its neighbour. There is no single solution and no scrambled state to solve. Instead, you twist the chain into shapes such as animals, objects, geometric solids or your own designs. This one comes in the Macaron colour scheme.

How the 48-piece version is different

The most popular snakes have 24 pieces. The 48 Blocks version has twice as many segments, so you can build larger and more complex shapes that a short chain simply isn't long enough to make. A longer chain is harder to handle, though. With more elaborate shapes, you need to plan your twists and keep track of which part of the snake does what. If you are just starting out, 24 pieces are usually easier to master. The 48-piece version is a better fit if you already know the basic shapes and want to build something bigger.

What it's good for

A snake is not a puzzle you solve against the clock like a 3x3 cube. It is a construction toy and a spatial puzzle. It's great for training spatial imagination and for experimenting with no pressure to get a result. Many people also keep one on their desk to keep their hands busy. Shape patterns are easy to find online, but over time most people start coming up with their own. It also makes a good gift for a child who enjoys building blocks and puzzles, even if they aren't into speedcubing.
