GAN i4 MagLev Frosted 3x3

The i4 is GAN's current flagship smart cube. It works like a regular magnetic 3x3 speed cube, but it also has electronics inside that send every move to an app via Bluetooth. The GAN i4 MagLev Frosted uses the MagLev system instead of springs, a magnetic Ball-Core and a matte (frosted) surface without UV coating. We offer it in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

In MagLev, repelling magnets do the job of springs. This makes turning light and fast, and the layers clearly snap back into place. The magnets in the Ball-Core help the layers align and keep the cube stable at high TPS. Users often compare its feel to the GAN 15 and GAN 16. They describe it as smooth and stable, and you can hardly feel the electronics inside. Some users also report lockups on slice moves that they could not get rid of by changing the setup. These are isolated opinions, but if your style relies heavily on slices, you may want to keep an eye on this.

• Zero-Loss Sensing: sensors record every turn, so the app can reconstruct your entire solve.
• Gyroscope (Omni-Motion Monitoring): the cube also tracks its orientation in your hand, not just the layer turns.

Frosted, UV or Leap?

The MagLev Frosted and MagLev UV versions share the same mechanism (MagLev and Ball-Core). They differ only in surface. Frosted is matte with medium grip, while UV has a glossy coating that grips your fingers more firmly. Leap Frosted is the more affordable version in the i4 line, and the Minions edition is a licensed collector's version.

Who is it for?

For cubers who want to train based on data: analyse their solves, improve lookahead and learn algorithms with the app. In everyday solving, the cube should keep up with a regular flagship 3x3. It will also appeal to beginners who find the app motivating for regular practice. Keep in mind, though, that MagLev gives a fast, light feel that takes a bit of control at first. If you don't need the smart features, you can get a regular magnetic cube for less money.
