GAN i4 Maglev UV Minions

GAN i4 Maglev UV Minions is a smart 3x3 cube from the official GANCUBE x Minions collection. Under the movie theme is a standard GAN i4 Maglev UV. The cube connects via Bluetooth to the CubeStation app, records every move and gives you data from each solve. The Minions edition has its own 6-color stickerless color scheme, a banana-yellow interior and a Bob cap on the center.

How it turns

Mechanically, this is a fully fledged speedcube, not a gadget. Dual magnetic MagLev replaces the springs, and there are 76 magnets in the whole cube. Turning is light and fast, and 35° self-aligning helps you finish off layers. GAN states 90° corner cutting. Users compare the feel to the GAN 15 and GAN 16: the cube is fast, snappy and fairly blocky. These are opinions rather than specs, but they suggest that the sensors inside don't spoil the solving experience.

Smart features

• Zero-Loss Sensing: a contactless Hall sensor above the core registers turns, and a gyroscope tracks the cube's orientation in real time.
• Two battery modes: according to the manufacturer, approx. 30 hours in full-feature mode and up to 200 hours in power-saving mode.
• Fast charging: 10 minutes on the Minions edition GanPod charger gives approx. 10 hours of use.
• 6-color ball core makes it easier to reassemble the cube after taking it apart so that the colors match the app.
• Minions theme in CubeStation: skin, frame and effects in the app.

Adjustment

Tension is set with the GES system, and center travel is adjustable too. Together, this gives 72 setting combinations. An adjustment tool is included, so you can set the cube looser for speed or tighter for control.

Who is it for?

For cubers who want to train with a smart cube and analyze their solves, and who happen to like the Minions. This edition has the same mechanism and the same features as the standard i4 Maglev UV. What differs is the look and the extras in the box. If the movie theme doesn't interest you, the standard version will do. Higher up in GAN's smart series is the GAN16 ui Maglev MAX. For a child, a colorful cube with Bob makes an appealing gift, and the app helps with learning to solve.
