HaiTun Waverider V1 3x3 Flagship (Limited Edition)

The Waverider V1 was HaiTun's first cube. This limited edition has the same mechanism as the HaiTun Waverider V1 3x3 Flagship, but a different look. The cube is made of transparent blue plastic and comes stickerless. A sticker set is included, and you apply the stickers yourself. According to the distributor, only 200 units of this edition were made worldwide, which makes it an interesting piece for collectors. For solving, it performs just like the regular Flagship.

Dual magnets in the Flagship version

The Waverider V1 comes in three versions: Standard, Flagship and Pioneer. The Standard version has classic corner-edge magnets, 48 in total. The Flagship adds a second magnet system: small, fairly strong magnets in the feet of the pieces that are attracted towards the inside of the cube. That makes 96 magnets altogether. The layers "snap" into place more clearly, and the cube feels more stable. The Pioneer has the same magnet layout as the Flagship but uses MagLev instead of springs. This limited edition uses springs.

How it turns

The manufacturer emphasizes that the Waverider turns quietly. The pieces have a heart-shaped pattern on their surface, designed to help spread the lube. Users praise its corner cutting. They also say the cube is controllable without losing speed or adding much resistance. They rate the magnet strength as medium. A few people note that the cube doesn't perform at its best straight out of the box, so it's worth lubing it and setting it up to your liking. One review also mentions a "sandy" sound after a few weeks of use, which disappeared after cleaning.

Who is it for?

Mainly for people who collect limited and unusual cube editions. It's also a good fit for cubers who want plenty of adjustment options and two magnet systems in one cube. For a child's first cube, a regular stickerless model is a better choice, since here you have to apply the stickers and set up the mechanism yourself. The newer generation, the Waverider V2, already has a magnetic core, i.e. a ball with magnets in the center of the cube. The V1 Flagship does not have this feature.
