HaiTun Waverider v1 3x3 Standard

The Waverider v1 is HaiTun's first cube, released in early 2024. The HaiTun Waverider v1 3x3 Standard is the basic version of this model. It has classic magnets in the corners and edges, runs on springs (no MagLev and no Ball-Core) and offers extensive adjustment for its price range: tension, compression and magnet strength.

How it turns

The Waverider has a smooth feel and is fairly quiet. The inner surfaces of the pieces have a heart-shaped pattern which, according to the manufacturer, helps spread the lube evenly. The magnets in the Standard version are moderately strong, so the cube is not overly "clicky". Users rate its corner cutting well, although a lot depends on the settings. Some say the cube is not very impressive out of the box and only shows what it can do after lubing and setting the tension and compression. Reviewers usually place it in the mid-range rather than among the flagships. It can work as a main if you spend a moment on the setup.

Standard, Flagship or v2?

The Standard has a single magnet track, i.e. 48 magnets in the corners and edges. The Flagship version has additional magnets in the piece feet (96 in total), which gives more noticeable layer alignment. The adjustment system is the same in both versions. The next generation, the Waverider V2, is a separate design with a magnetic Ball-Core, so its specifications should not be applied to the v1.

Who is it for?

For someone who already has their first cube behind them and wants a magnetic 3x3 with real adjustment, but doesn't need Ball-Core or MagLev. It will also suit cubers who like to tune their cube themselves and want to try something other than GAN and MoYu. If you're looking for a cube that's ready for speedsolving straight out of the box, be prepared to lube it and set it up.
