HuaMeng TG 3x3 Ball Core

HuaMeng is a brand owned by MoYu, and the TG model stands out above all for its range of adjustment. The manufacturer quotes 1620 possible setting combinations. HuaMeng TG 3x3 Ball Core is the base version of this magnetic cube: it has a Ball-Core, classic springs (no MagLev) and matte plastic without a UV coating. It comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

Adjustment in the HuaMeng TG

On many cubes you can only change tension and compression, while magnet strength is fixed at the factory. On the TG you can separately adjust layer looseness, spring stiffness and how strongly the cube "clicks" on the edges and corners. This freedom does take some time, though. Before you find your setup, you will probably test several settings.

How it turns

The corner magnets work together with the magnetic core, so the layers align by themselves (auto-alignment), and the cube stays stable during fast turning. At around 80 g, you can clearly feel the TG in your hand. According to user reviews, it works well for cubers with aggressive turning who like a strong, controlled magnetic feel and plenty of control. Opinions on the feel itself vary: some describe it as smooth, others as rather tactile. If you are used to light cubes with weaker magnets, it may take you a while to warm up to it.

Which TG version?

The Ball Core UV version has the same mechanism and differs only in its glossy UV coating, which gives more grip. The MagLev Ball Core version uses repelling magnets instead of springs. It has 88 magnets in total instead of 76 and is slightly heavier. There is also a newer TG V2 generation on the market with a different adjustment system, but that is a separate model.

Who is it for?

For a cuber who enjoys testing settings and wants a stable 3x3 cube with a Ball-Core without paying extra for MagLev and UV. Beginners can handle it too, but to start with, a simpler magnetic cube without so many adjustment options is usually enough.
